Home Construction in Taylor, TX

Taylor is where our trucks start the day, so most jobs here get looked at the same week you call. It is also the town with the oldest housing stock we work in — a downtown grid of early-1900s bungalows and Victorians, ringed by mid-century brick ranches and, increasingly, new construction going up on the back of the Samsung plant and everything following it.

Home Construction on Taylor houses

New construction and large additions live or die on the drawing set and the sequence. We work from a permitted set, book inspections in the right order, and keep one point of contact so you are not chasing five trades for the same answer.

Downtown Taylor is largely pre-war: pier-and-beam bungalows, shotgun cottages and the odd two-storey Victorian, most of them on their third or fourth owner. Move out toward the loop and it turns into 1960s and 70s slab-on-grade brick ranches. The newest subdivisions on the north and east edges are barely a few years old.

What catches people out here

  • Pre-war houses here are almost always pier-and-beam, which is a gift — it means plumbing and electrical reroutes happen from underneath instead of through a slab.
  • Knob-and-tube and cloth-wrapped wiring still turns up in the older downtown blocks. We test before we quote, because finding it after demo is what turns a fixed price into a change order.
  • Original longleaf pine floors are usually under the carpet. They are worth saving, and we will tell you when they are.

Permits in Taylor

Taylor runs everything through the MGO portal — application, plan review, inspection scheduling and the paper trail. There is a published Residential Remodel checklist and a fee schedule, and the city is explicit that starting without a permit can bring fines. We handle the application and inspections through City of Taylor Development Services as part of the job.

What's included

Everything in a custom home build

Roof, windows, doors, insulation and cladding sequenced so the structure is dry before interior work begins.

Mechanical, electrical, plumbing

Full rough-in by licensed trades, inspected at each stage rather than signed off at the end.

Interior fit-out

Drywall through to final finishes and fixtures, with a written punch list closed out before handover.

Taylor runs everything through the MGO portal — application, plan review, inspection scheduling and the paper trail. We pull and manage it as part of the job through City of Taylor Development Services, so you are not the one learning My Government Online (MGO).

Taylor is our home base for us. We are based in Taylor and Taylor is inside our core service area, so a site visit is usually within a few days of you calling — not a fortnight.

Both. Additions are often the harder job — tying new framing, roofline and foundation into an existing house so it does not read as a bolt-on takes more planning than a clear site does.

It varies by city and it is the part people underestimate. Hutto's initial plan review runs around fifteen days; Georgetown adds a historic review on top for properties in the overlay. We build that into the programme rather than treating it as a delay.
